A Resilience Update from BSIXTWELVE Wines: Navigating the Spring Frosts
Dear Friends and Wine Lovers,
Nature has a way of reminding us who is truly in charge, and the last few weeks at Lone Farm Vineyard have certainly tested our resilience. While we consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have escaped the unpredictable April frosts completely unscathed, the British spring caught up with us in he early hours of May 12th. A sudden, sharp frost rolled through the valley, and despite our best efforts to protect the budburst, we have unfortunately suffered a loss of nearly 50% of this season's new growth.
Before this cold snap, the vines were looking exceptionally healthy, and the potential yield for the upcoming vintage was looking incredibly promising. To face such a significant setback just as the vineyard was bursting into life is heartbreaking, but it is the reality of working hand-in-hand with the elements. We have included a couple of pictures below to show you both the stark reality of the frost damage and the resilient green that still remains.
In times like these, our commitment to our core philosophy only strengthens. We will continue to work tirelessly following our regenerative, organic and biodynamic principles. Now more than ever, our focus is on nurturing the soil biology and boosting the natural immunity of the vines to preserve the long-term health of the plants. By treating the vineyard as a holistic ecosystem, we ensure that the grapes that do make it to harvest will carry the exceptional quality and distinct Hampshire terroir you have come to expect from Bsixtwelve Wines.
We want to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has reached out with kind words, support, and messages over the past few weeks—your community vibe truly keeps our spirits high. We are down, but we are certainly not out. We will keep you closely updated on our progress as the vines begin their recovery process, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Vineyard soon.
